7 for 7: Flourishing Flowers

7 for 7 is a project held by Central Equity, Multiplex, RMIT University and Wonderment Walk Victoria, which I’ve participated in 2019 with a group of artists and curators. It’s a collaborative series which is installed on the columns of Healeys Lane under construction then. Our works aim to respond to how construction work affect people and balance the impact through aesthetic approach. Artists were allocated in order and then after the first one finished, the second artist will receive a portion of the previous one’s work as a catalyst for creating work, and so on.

When I think of Healeys Lane, I think of the shadows cast by the construction site. It is a hidden place within the city. I also think of the lane’s potential as it transforms into a different environment. I think of the architectural and structural elements appearing as growing, prospering and spreading, much like wildlife. Plants, trees and flowers were perfect choices for me to express this synergy and also what I want for this place - vibrance. I wanted the artwork to be direct, simple, and bright with a sense of movement so that people can feel refreshed while moving through the space.
